SUMMARY:National Water Dance "Moving Forward Together"
DESCRIPTION:Keshet Dance is excited to join the National Water Dance Projects once again in assembling a national movement choir for the Annual National Water Dance! Keshet will be performing in-person at the Rio Grande Nature Center State Park\, and will be live streaming our Water Dance piece simultaneously with dancers across the country\, starting at 2 pm MST on April 20th\, 2024. \nAnastasia Knodle (Diné- The Navajo Nation\, and one of her known clans: Todích’íí’nii which translates to Bitter Water) and Lara Segura from Keshet Dance and Center for the Arts invite audience members on a multidisciplinary\, interactive journey\, “Moving Forward Together”\, that will explore and nurture a deep personal connection to water as both a sacred and essential resource for human survival. This journey showcases a story of the Navajo Twin Warriors with dance\, spoken word\, and community engagement. Specific to the Southwest\, this work speaks to the June 2023 Supreme Court denial of water rights set forth in US treaties with the Navajo (Diné) Nation. Weaving together process and impact\, this project delivers a powerful\, environmentally conscious\, educational\, and inspirational experience \nNational Water Dance will take place on Saturday\, April 20th\, just two days before Earth Day\, making this a unique opportunity to engage with the community in deep and creative conversations around water usage\, scarcity\, and environmental justice. \nAudience members are encouraged to bring: Water bottle\, sunscreen\, appropriate shoes and clothing for the outdoors\, sunglasses\, hats\, and an open mind. \nThe performance is FREE\nRio Grande Nature Center State Park\n2901 Candelaria Rd.\, NW\nAlbuquerque\, NM 87107\nParking Day-Use Fee: $3.00 per vehicle (exact cash or check)  Friends of the RGNC permit holders and NM State Parks Annual permit holders enter free with valid permit displayed.  \nNational Water Dance (NWD) is a biennial event which gathers dance teachers\, practitioners\, choreographers\, and community members to take part in simultaneous dance across the nation. The mission of NWD is to “promote dance as a vehicle for social change by increasing awareness of environmental and social issues through collaboration with the artistic\, educational and scientific communities. The primary goal of the National Water Dance is to bring awareness and encourage change in the areas of water use\, conservation\, environmental justice\, and the growing urgency of climate change action.
