The Youth Leadership Council is now the Arts and Justice Creative Team!
Keshet’s Youth Leadership Council has generated an updated name – the Arts and Justice Creative Team!
One of the specific needs that Keshet has been seeing over time is for Youth Leaders to have steady, staff positions at organizations, rather than one-time stipends for events that are few and far between.
To effectively facilitate true, lasting change and provide a platform for youth voices, it is necessary to create a space where youth leaders are supported both financially and professionally.
To reflect this goal and to indicate the staff status of our Youth Leaders, the Arts & Justice department worked together to find a more appropriate job title, and have renamed themselves; these incredible artists/leaders are now the Keshet’s Arts and Justice Creative Team (AJCT).
Why the name change?
- We wanted to be clear that these incredible artists and young leaders are fully engaged staff at Keshet, and often the term “Youth Leader” can imply a voice from the community that works with an organization periodically,
- the word “youth” was overshadowing the word “leader” and downplaying the deep wisdom from these team members, and
- the work we do is collective and is centered in the arts, and the positioning of “creative” and the community power of the “team” felt accurate for our new name!
